Mindy Sue Moreno Killed in a Semi-Truck Accident in Gaines County, Texas

Gaines County, Texas — A crash involving a semi-truck claimed the life of a Seminole woman Wednesday morning. The incident happened at the intersection of U.S. Highway 385 and County Road 124.

According to investigators, a semi-truck towing a trailer was stopped at the intersection but failed to yield to a northbound SUV traveling in the passing lane.

The SUV, driven by 35-year-old Mindy Sue Moreno, collided with the semi. Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released additional details at this time.

The surviving family deserves justice and compensation for the unexpected passing of their loved ones

This was a wholly preventable crash that never should have occurred. There is no excuse for cutting off another driver, especially for a commercial driver. Unfortunately, we are seeing this pattern of negligence happen all across Texas.

In a case similar to this that we just resolved, a young father lost his life when a semi-truck driver deliberately ran a red light. The trucking company had dashcam footage of the accident. It showed a driver approaching a light. Five or six seconds before reaching the light, the light turned red. The driver is heard telling his co-driver how he hates red lights. He proceeded to run the red light, completely oblivious to cross traffic. He killed an innocent father of two.

In another devastating case, a commercial driver backed his truck across both lanes of traffic during early morning hours. During his deposition, he stated that he saw traffic coming but thought they would stop for his convenience. He did not consider what would happen if a driver could not see him. With the rising sun impairing visibility, a young man tragically drove under the trailer and was killed at the scene. Again, a child was left fatherless.

In another case we just resolved,  a distracted trucker left his trailer blocking a lane of traffic while attempting a left turn. The driver was caught on dashcam footage talking on his phone with a drink in hand, completely oblivious to his surroundings. His negligence resulted in the death of a young boy. Devastated parents lost their 20-year-old son.

These accidents, including Ms. Moreno’s death, share a common thread – they were entirely preventable. Commercial drivers and their employers must be held accountable when they do not follow fundamental safety rules. Trucking companies need to train their drivers and enforce consequences when safety protocols are violated. This is a terrible crash. The family deserves answers, justice, and full accountability from the truck driver and the company for the harm they caused.
