Tamek Skinner Killed in Rear-end Semi-truck Accident on Interstate 84 in West Hartford, Connecticut


West Hartford,  Conn. — A New York man died Monday morning following a rear-end collision involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 84 East.

According to Connecticut State Police, 30-year-old Tamek Skinner was driving eastbound when a tractor-trailer struck his vehicle from behind.

Both vehicles became stuck together and came to a stop on the right shoulder. Emergency responders transported Skinner to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Authorities have not released further details at this time.

The family of the deceased deserves answers

A life was needlessly lost because a truck driver failed to avoid striking Mr. Skinner’s vehicle from behind. According to federal studies, rear-end collisions account for 22% of large truck crashes, making them one of the most common and preventable types of accidents.

The investigation revealed that the trucking company routinely pushed drivers to exceed safe driving hours. These dangerous practices continue to plague the industry.

We do not know what caused this crash, but we do know that the truck driver must be held responsible, no matter the reason. A life was lost. The family deserves a full investigation into what led to the crash and accountability from everyone responsible. The truck driver may be fully responsible, but others may also be involved, such as the trucking company, a manufacturer, or others.
