Man Injured in a Work Accident with a Baler at a Goodwill Outlet in Everett, Washington

Everett, Washington – Firefighters responded to an emergency Tuesday evening after a worker’s arm became trapped in the gears of a baler machine at the Goodwill Outlet on West Casino Road.

Firefighters, including technical rescue team members, worked for about 30 minutes to free the man while medics provided treatment at the scene.

The worker sustained multiple injuries to his lower arm and was transported in serious condition to Providence Regional Medical Center.

Was the Machine Designed to Prevent Unintended Injury?

Limb injuries have life-changing consequences: loss of income, physical pain and suffering, and mounting medical costs are just a few of the burdens these injuries bring to workers and their families. It is unfair, and if people are not provided the protection they deserve, they should not suffer these consequences alone. Those responsible must be held accountable and fairly compensate the injured for their loss.

It will be especially important to determine if the machine was manufactured with adequate safety guards to prevent such an accident. This is on the manufacturer for not taking the time to think through the dangers of the machine.

The machine and actions of all involved need to be investigated to determine exactly what happened. If wrongdoing is uncovered, those responsible must be held accountable.
