More Than 145,000 Trailer Hitch Locks Recalled Over Risk of Vehicle Detachment


Horizon Global has issued a recall for over 145,000 trailer hitch locks due to a manufacturing defect that could cause towing vehicles to detach from their loads, posing a significant crash risk. The recall, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects Reese hitch receiver locks manufactured between September 19, 2019, and June 10, 2024.

The following part numbers are included in the recall:

  • 7057030
  • 7057230
  • 7057033
  • 7054630
  • 7057130

According to the NHTSA, the cap on the affected locks may fail to maintain proper retention, potentially causing the lock to loosen and separate from the pin. This defect could cause the trailer to become detached from the towing vehicle.

Owners of the recalled products will receive notification letters beginning February 5, 2025.
