Ariann Sizemore Killed in a Semi-Truck Accident on US-33 in Athens County, Ohio

Athens County, OH — A collision involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle on US-33 in Athens County took the life of one person. The incident happened on Tuesday morning.

Preliminary reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol indicate that a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer traveling westbound crossed through the median into the eastbound lanes. The semi collided with an eastbound 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier before veering off the roadway, breaking through a guardrail, and plunging down an embankment.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Ariann J. Sizemore, 25, of Middleport, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details have been released.

Surviving Family Members of this Semi-truck Crash Deserve Answers and Justice

This is not the first time we have seen a crash like this. We recently resolved a crash in New Mexico where a full-sized semi-truck drove through a dirt median and crashed head-on with a passenger bus. Multiple people were killed, many more injured. Countless lives were changed in an instant. Many families lost loved ones unexpectedly and did not know how to move forward. Some lost parents, some lost children, and most had never dealt with the legal process before.

We are working on another case involving a young man from Nebraska who was traveling through Kansas after a multi-week work trip. While traveling on a two-lane road, a passing semi-truck crossed the double yellow and crashed head-on into his vehicle. His parents’ lives were changed in an instant.

These stories happen far too often, and those suffering from the aftermath are left picking up the pieces while the truck driver and trucking company continue with life as normal. These crashes rarely lead to criminal investigations unless drugs or alcohol are involved. That leaves families with civil lawsuits as the only meaningful method to hold the wrongdoers accountable for the pain they have caused.

This is a difficult time, and my thoughts are with those suffering here. No one should have to lose a loved one in such a preventable crash. My hope is that the wrongdoers will be held responsible and the families suffering will receive the answers and justice they deserve.
