Ford Recalls Nearly 300,000 F-Series Diesel Trucks Over Fuel Pump Defect

Dearborn, MI—Ford Motor Company has announced the recall of 295,449 F-Series diesel-engine trucks due to a defect in the high-pressure fuel pump. The defect could cause a loss of power and increase the risk of a crash. The recall, reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), includes a range of heavy-duty truck models from 2020 to 2022.

According to the NHTSA, the issue arises from biodiesel deposits forming on the drivetrain roller components of the high-pressure fuel pump. Over time, this buildup could lead to pump failure, potentially causing extended crank times during startup, reduced engine power, unusual noise, and the illumination of the Check Engine Light (CEL).

The recall affects the following models:

  • 2020–2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600
  • 2021–2022 Ford F-650, F-750

Ford will address the issue by updating the powertrain control module software in affected vehicles at no cost to owners. Owners can verify if their vehicle is included in the recall by visiting the NHTSA recall website or contacting Ford’s customer service hotline at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s reference number for this recall is 24S78.
