Ford Issues Recall for Over 20,000 Escape and Lincoln Corsair Plug-In Hybrid SUVs Due to Battery Defect

Dearborn, MI — Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of more than 20,000 Escape and Lincoln Corsair plug-in-hybrid SUVs to address a high-voltage battery defect that could lead to serious safety concerns. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a manufacturing flaw in the battery cells identified as “micro defects and local stresses” in the manufacturing process that can damage the separator layer within the battery cells, potentially triggering a short circuit. This defect could result in the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly or, in extreme cases, cause a fire.

To address the issue, Ford will update the software in the Battery Energy Control Module of affected vehicles to enable early detection of the defect. If a problem is identified, the high-voltage battery pack will be replaced at no cost to the customer.

The recall affects 16,480 Ford Escape plug-in-hybrid SUVs from model years 2020 through 2024 and 4,004 Lincoln Corsair plug-in-hybrid SUVs from model years 2021 through 2024.

Customers are advised to contact their nearest Ford or Lincoln dealership to schedule the necessary repairs. They can also check the status of their vehicle by visiting the NHTSA recalls website or contacting Ford’s customer service hotline at 866-436-7332.
