GM Issues Recall for 2025 Chevy Equinox EV Over Pedestrian Safety Concern


General Motors (GM) has announced a recall affecting the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV due to an issue with its pedestrian alert system. The system, designed to produce sounds to alert pedestrians of the vehicle’s presence at low speeds, may not emit enough noise, increasing the risk of accidents.

The recall, issued on December 5, 2024, applies to 7,606 electric Equinox vehicles. According to GM, all affected models are equipped with faulty software in their body control module (BCM). This prevents the pedestrian alert system from meeting the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 for minimum sound requirements in hybrid and electric vehicles.

Owners of the impacted vehicles are urged to visit their nearest Chevrolet dealership to have the BCM updated at no cost.

GM emphasized the importance of addressing this issue. Insufficient noise from the vehicle at low speeds may make it difficult for pedestrians to detect its presence, posing a potential safety risk.
