FDA Issues Class 1 Recall for Gyro Kits Due to Salmonella Contamination Risk

Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a Class 1 recall, its most serious risk level, for multiple Gyro Kit products due to potential salmonella contamination. This classification is reserved for situations where the use of or exposure to a violative product could result in serious adverse health consequences or death.

The contamination has been linked to cucumbers used in the tzatziki sauce included in the meal kits. These products were distributed to Sam’s Club locations in 19 states across the country.

The FDA stated, “Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Illness usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating food contaminated with Salmonella; the symptoms usually last four to seven days.”

The FDA advises consumers who purchased recalled kits to immediately dispose of the product and refrain from consuming it. Customers can visit any Sam’s Club location to receive a full refund.
