FDA Issues Class I Recall for Cornbread Mix Due to Undeclared Egg Allergen

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified the recall of Baker’s Source Traditional Cornbread Mix Complete as a Class I recall, the highest risk category. This designation signals a reasonable probability that consumption or exposure could result in severe health consequences or even death for individuals with egg allergies.

The cornbread mix, produced by Texas-based C.H. Guenther & Son, was initially recalled in October 2024 after it was discovered that it contained egg. This allergen was not listed on the packaging. In total, 210,960 pounds of the product, sold in 5-pound bags and intended for food service use, have been pulled from distribution. The affected batches have a shelf life of one year.

The affected products were distributed across Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Florida, and Virginia. Food allergens such as eggs, one of nine major allergens in the U.S., must be declared on product labels to protect consumers with allergies.
