Man Killed in Accident Involving a Parked Semi-truck on Turner Turnpike in Sapulpa, Oklahoma

Sapulpa, Okla. — A 19-year-old from Bartlesville lost his life in a crash on the Turner Turnpike near Sapulpa on Sunday morning.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol stated that the man’s vehicle veered onto the shoulder and collided with a parked semi-truck. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was in the sleeper berth at the time and was unharmed.

Semi-trucks cannot park on the side of the road and put everyone else in danger

Trucking companies and drivers often try to blame the person killed for rear-ending a parked semi-truck, but this is neither fair nor accurate. When a crash involves a truck parked on the shoulder of a highway, a thorough investigation is essential. Parking a large truck near moving traffic is extremely dangerous and should only be a last resort.

The trucking industry is well aware of this danger and recognizes that these situations lead to repeated tragedies when trucks are parked on the side of the road. Unfortunately, these preventable accidents continue to happen far too often.

In one case we handled, a young father lost his life after crashing into a semi-truck parked perilously close to the road. The truck driver claimed the crash was caused by a flat tire, trying to place responsibility on the victim. However, our investigation revealed that the tire had been underinflated for an extended period. Instead of replacing it, the trucking company chose temporary repairs, prioritizing cost savings over safety. This negligence resulted in a devastating loss, leaving a child without a father.

In another instance, a man died after his car collided with a semi-truck parked on the left shoulder of a busy highway. The truck driver later admitted to parking there to use the restroom, putting the truck dangerously close to traffic. This careless decision claimed an innocent life.

Drivers who park in unsafe locations should not be permitted to shift the blame onto others for the risks they create. When negligence or misconduct leads to such tragedies, those responsible must be held accountable. No family should suffer the loss of a loved one due to poor decisions that put others in harm’s way.

Thorough investigations by experienced professionals can uncover the facts and ensure justice is served. Families affected by unsafe trucking practices deserve clear answers and actions to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
