Tesla Recalls 239,000 Vehicles in the U.S. Over Rear-View Camera Issue

Washington—Tesla has announced the recall of approximately 239,000 vehicles in the United States due to a problem that may cause rear-view cameras to stop functioning.

According to the automaker, the issue stems from a reverse current that can happen during vehicle startup. This may lead to a short circuit on the car’s computer board, causing the rear-view camera to stop working. Tesla explained that the issue is linked to specific software and hardware configurations, particularly in colder temperatures.

To address the problem, Tesla has already rolled out a software update that modifies the vehicle’s startup sequence to prevent the short circuit. Vehicles with affected circuit boards will be identified, and the car’s computer will be replaced if necessary.

Tesla began investigating the issue in November after noticing an increase in computer replacements related to short-circuit failures. The company reported 887 warranty claims and 68 field reports associated with the recall.

The recall impacts 2024-2025 Model 3 and Model S vehicles and 2023-2025 Model X and Model Y vehicles. Tesla has also stated that cars produced after December 16 feature a new computer variant to resolve the issue.
