Worker Injured in a Worksite Accident in Lyndhurst, New Jersey

Lyndhurst, N.J. — A construction worker suffered serious head injuries in an accident at a job site in Lyndhurst. The incident happened Tuesday morning in the 1500 block of Valley Brook Avenue.

The 56-year-old worker was struck by the bucket of an excavator while on a construction site. Emergency responders from the Lyndhurst Police Emergency Squad transported the injured worker to a hospital in Paterson, where he is being treated for severe trauma.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is involved in the incident.

The site needs to be investigated for safety procedures in place

Unfortunately, preventable accidents like these occur repeatedly on construction sites. Being hit by an object is one of OSHA’s “Fatal Four” leading causes of death in the construction industry. These incidents often involve falling objects caused by rigging failures, unsecured or shifting materials, equipment breakdowns, or collisions with vehicles or machinery.

Those in charge of safety on the job site are responsible for keeping everyone safe. This involves knowing where workers are in relation to operating equipment, setting up clear communication systems, and making sure everyone is thoroughly trained on safety protocols. Working near heavy machinery like excavators requires careful coordination and the use of trained spotters to prevent tragic accidents. When these rules are ignored, the risk of serious injuries or fatalities increases dramatically.

What safety measures were in place at this site? Who controlled the machinery?

While those in charge may be reluctant to disclose the details of workplace accidents fully, families have a right to know exactly what happened to their loved ones. Legal tools like depositions and professional investigations can uncover the truth behind these tragedies.

The victim’s family should know if this accident could have been avoided with better planning and safety measures.

I hope the surviving family finds the guidance, support, and answers they need during this difficult time.
