BMW Recalls Over 70,000 Defective Vehicles for Risk of an Accident


BMW is recalling more than 70,000 electric vehicles due to a software issue that could lead to a sudden loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The affected vehicles may experience a shutdown of the high-voltage system caused by a malfunction in the electric drive motor software, the agency said. If this occurs while driving, the vehicle could lose propulsion without warning.

The recall covers specific models from the 2022 through 2025 model years, including:

  • 2022–2024 BMW i4
  • 2025 BMW i4 eDrive35
  • 2025 BMW i4 eDrive40
  • 2022–2024 BMW iX
  • 2023–2024 BMW i7
  • 2024 BMW i5
