Integra LifeSciences Recalls Defective Cranial Perforators Following Reports of Serious Injuries


Integra LifeSciences has issued a recall of its Codman cranial perforators after a product defect was linked to multiple patient injuries, according to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recall was prompted by reports that the devices may break during procedures, potentially leaving fragments lodged in the skull or causing damage to brain tissue. The FDA stated that the malfunction has led to complications, including surgical delays, difficulty retrieving broken pieces, and bleeding.

Ten injuries have been reported to be associated with the defect so far.
