Positec Recalls Defective Electric Corded Chainsaws and Pole Saws Due to Laceration


WASHINGTON, D.C. — Positec USA has issued a recall for approximately 49,000 electric chainsaws and pole saws sold under the Hyper Tough, Worx, and Portland brand names due to a malfunction that poses a risk of serious injury.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the main power switch on the affected tools can fail, allowing the saws to continue running even after the switch is released. This defect creates a laceration hazard for users.

The recall covers several models, including the Hyper Tough 9 Amp 14-inch corded chainsaws, the Worx 8 Amp 14-inch electric chainsaws and pole saws, and the Portland 9 Amp 14-inch chainsaws. Each model can be identified by its distinctive brand markings and color schemes, including red and black for Hyper Tough, orange and black for Worx, and green for Portland.

An additional 3,000 units were sold in Canada.
