DEWALT Recalls Defective Grinder Flap Discs Due to Risk of Lacerations


DEWALT is recalling thousands of its 4.5-inch grinder flap discs due to a potential safety hazard that may result in serious injuries, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced.

The recall affects approximately 17,680 units of DEWALT Elite Grinder Series 4.5-inch 40G T27 High Density Flap Discs, models DWA8280HRT and DWA8280RT. The discs are designed for use with angle grinders in heavy-duty applications. Affected products were manufactured with date codes ranging from 2024-36 to 2024-48.

The recall was issued after reports revealed that the ceramic cloth abrasive flaps can detach during use, creating a risk of lacerations and other injuries. To date, DEWALT has received three reports of the discs coming apart while in operation, resulting in three injuries.

The model number can be found on the front label of the flap disc, while the date code is stamped on each disc and printed on the shipping packaging in a year-week format.
