Baxter Recalls Defective Mobile Lift Component Due to Risk of Injury or Death

Baxter Healthcare Corporation has issued a Class I recall—designated by the FDA as the most serious—of a mobile lift component due to the risk of improper attachment that could lead to serious injury or death.

The recall involves the Q-Link 13, product code 3156509, which is an optional part used with a range of Liko brand mobile lifts and accessories. The affected component is designed to connect Quick-Release Hooks to sling bars used in patient lifts. However, Baxter reports the Q-Link 13 may allow for false latching, where the component appears to be securely attached but can later loosen and detach during use. This can result in a patient falling during transfer, posing a critical safety risk. Caregivers may also be injured while trying to prevent a fall.

The recall affects the following mobile lift models:

  • Uno 102 EE (2010004)
  • Viking L (2040044)
  • Viking XL (2040043)
  • Viking M (2040045A)
  • Viking S (2040006)
  • Viking XS (2040007)
  • LikoLight (2030001)

It also includes LikoScale Adapter Kits (3156232) and associated accessories:

  • LikoScale 200 (3156225)
  • LikoScale 350 (3156228)
  • LikoScale 400 (3156226)

These mobile lifts are commonly used in patient care settings for safe transfers between beds, wheelchairs, bathtubs, and other locations. Some are also used for gait training.

Baxter has confirmed several serious injuries and one fatality linked to this issue.
