MaxKare Recalls Defective Electric Blankets Due to Fire and Burn Hazards


WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for more than 8,500 MaxKare electric blankets following multiple reports of overheating, including incidents resulting in fire and burn injuries.

The recall affects three specific models—HB18A-7284-1, HB18A-8490-2, and HB18A-6284-1—sold exclusively online through Walmart.com between June 2021 and November 2024. The blankets were offered in twin, full, and queen sizes and came in brown and gray color options. Each unit features six adjustable heat settings and a nine-hour automatic shutoff function.

According to the manufacturer, Yumo, 34 cases of overheating have been reported. Among those, two incidents involved blankets catching fire, and three users sustained burn injuries.
