One Person Critically Injured in a Tire Blowout Accident on Interstate 84 in Elmore County, Idaho

ELMORE COUNTY, Idaho – A rollover van crash involving 13 passengers on Thursday evening sent one person to the hospital with critical injuries.

The van was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 when the rear driver-side tire blew out, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll onto the right shoulder.

One individual was airlifted to a hospital in Boise in critical condition.

No further information is currently available.

The cause of the tire failure has to be investigated

Tire blowouts can instill fear and render even the most skilled drivers powerless and unable to regain control of their vehicles. What makes a blowout even scarier is that it can happen without any warning signs and through no fault of the driver.

Tire blowouts don’t always result from bad luck, poor maintenance, wear and tear, or road conditions. Sometimes, they’re caused by a defective tire that should never have made it on our roads. This is why, after a tire blowout accident, trained professionals need to investigate what really caused the failure, not just assume it was unavoidable.

Defective tires often reveal signs of poor bonding or flawed construction. Poor bonding occurs when the internal layers of the tire aren’t adequately sealed, leading to smooth patches and internal rubbing. Sloppy manufacturing can leave components misaligned or structurally weak. These flaws make a tire more likely to fail under normal driving conditions, and when that happens, the manufacturer should be held accountable.

Tire repair shops may also share responsibility for tire failure incidents. If a shop installs a tire that isn’t suited for the vehicle or makes an improper repair, that negligence can contribute to a crash. Everyone in the chain—from design to installation—has a duty to keep drivers safe.

I hope the injured young man here fully recovers and that the answers to what went wrong with the van’s tire come to light.
