Seth Baughman and Robert Greenlee Killed in a Tire Failure Accident in Venango County, Franklin, Pennsylvania

FRANKLIN, Pa. — A  crash that claimed the lives of two Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employees Tuesday afternoon was caused by a tire malfunction. The single-vehicle accident occurred on Jackson Center Polk Road in Mineral Township, southwest of Franklin.

The victims have been identified as 58-year-old Robert Greenlee of Franklin and 31-year-old Seth Baughman of Polk.

State troopers report that the two men were traveling east in a Mack truck when the front passenger-side tire failed. The truck veered off the south side of the road, entered a ditch, and struck a tree. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the tire failure has to be investigated

When a commercial truck’s tire suddenly fails, people may assume it is no one’s fault or that it is due to bad luck or chance. People need to realize that many truck accidents we continue to see across the country are not bad luck; they are the direct result of defective tires.
