Multi-Vehicle Semi-truck Accident Kills at Least 5 People and Injures 11 Others on Interstate 35 in Austin, Texas

AUSTIN, TX — A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a crash on Interstate 35 in north Austin late Thursday night that claimed the lives of at least five people and left 11 others injured.

According to the Austin Police Department, the collision involved at least 17 vehicles, including multiple semi-trucks. Emergency responders confirmed that among the deceased were three adults, a child, and an infant.

The injured include:

• Four adults with critical, life-threatening injuries
• Four adults with minor injuries
• One child with potentially life-threatening injuries
• Two children with minor injuries

Authorities have charged the suspect with five counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

Law enforcement sources identified the individual as the driver of a semi-truck hauling for Amazon. However, officials clarified that the company did not directly employ the driver.
