Two People Killed in a Construction Zone Accident with a Semi-truck on Interstate 40 Near Shawnee, Oklahoma

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Two individuals lost their lives in a collision involving a semi-truck in a construction zone.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a tractor-trailer failed to slow down in an area where traffic had been reduced to one lane. The semi-truck struck one vehicle before colliding with multiple others. Officials have not yet determined why the truck did not slow with the flow of traffic.

Authorities have not released additional details.

The surviving families deserve answers, justice, and compensation

Due to their large size and massive weight, semi-trucks need a greater distance to stop safely and avoid a collision with the vehicle in front of them. Large commercial trucks that follow too close or speed in reduced or stopped traffic areas are playing with danger.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) mandates that commercial trucks stop at a safe distance (310 feet when running at 60 mph) and that tractor-trailers have functioning brakes. Truckers should be held accountable when they fail to follow safety rules and their actions cause someone to lose their life.

We recently took on a case involving a devastating truck crash on Interstate 20 in Texas, where a semi-truck failed to slow down and violently rear-ended a family’s vehicle, causing a chain reaction collision. The impact left the victims with severe injuries and lasting trauma.

This tragedy was entirely preventable. The truck driver failed to control their speed and react to stopped traffic, while the trucking company neglected to properly train their driver and ensure fleet safety. Additionally, the company that sold the truck allegedly failed to inform the trucking company about available collision avoidance technology that could have prevented this crash. Now, they are all trying to avoid accountability.

We are fighting to hold all responsible parties accountable for their negligence and to secure justice for the injured family. No one should suffer due to reckless driving and corporate failures to prioritize safety.

Only competent truckers who follow safety protocols should be on our roadways. When truckers and companies fail to keep motorists safe, they should be held accountable for any harm they cause on the roads.

I hope the surviving families find the answers, support, and guidance they deserve.
