Dajuanye Winters Killed in Accident with Semi-Truck Near Coconut Creek, Pompano Beach, Florida

POMPANO BEACH, FL – A man died after his motorcycle and a semi-truck collided in the 1900 block of North Powerline Road near Coconut Creek. The incident happened Monday afternoon.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office reports that Dajuanye Winters, 30, of Pompano Beach, was riding a 2019 Yamaha motorcycle southbound in the far-left thru lane when a semi-truck turned left across the southbound lanes.

Winters attempted to brake but was unable to stop in time, colliding with the truck’s rear. He was ejected from the motorcycle and landed near the crash site while his bike slid a short distance away.

The truck driver initially stopped and checked his vehicle but proceeded to a nearby loading dock, seeing no visible damage. Later, while loading his trailer, he noticed chipped paint matching the motorcycle and cooperated with authorities during the investigation.

No further information is currently available.

Truck drivers must be held accountable when they cause fatal accidents

Before turning left, truck drivers must make sure it is safe to do so. They cannot assume that oncoming motorists will see them or wait for them. If a truck driver does not have time to safely make a turn, they cannot make the turn. It’s that simple. Not following this very basic safety rule leads to accidents like this one.

Recently, we represented the family of a man who was killed when a semi-truck turned left in front of him. The trucking company tried to blame the motorcyclist, claiming he was speeding and not keeping a proper lookout. We defeated these arguments and made sure the surviving family received the accountability they deserved.

It is unfair for the surviving family here to be left with the loss of their loved one and with lingering questions. They also deserve to have answers and justice. My hope is they find the guidance they need to move forward.
