Daniel Pfeiffer Killed in an Accident with a Semi-Truck in Hillsboro, Oregon

HILLSBORO, OR – A 63-year-old driver was killed in a crash involving a sedan and a semi-truck Thursday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The collision at SW Bald Peak Road and Elsinore Lane.

Authorities determined that the sedan was traveling east on Bald Peak Road when it crashed into a westbound semi-truck, which was backing onto East Elsinore Lane.

The driver of the sedan, identified as Daniel Pfeiffer, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe the semi-truck driver was not intoxicated.

Families must receive answers and justice when fatal preventable accidents happen

This tragic incident in Hillsboro brings to mind a case I’m currently handling in Kentucky. A young father was traveling on a state highway when he collided with a semi-truck backing across the right lane of traffic into a local business parking lot.

It’s a challenging case. The defense attorney and the trucking company they represent are attempting to blame my client for hitting the truck. But this approach overlooks a critical question: Why was the truck blocking a lane of traffic in the first place?

When I deposed the truck driver, he made a startling admission. He testified that he saw my client’s vehicle approaching but decided to back across the lane of traffic anyway. His reasoning? He simply assumed the young father would see him and stop.

What the truck driver never considered was that my client was traveling directly into the rising sun, and the truck’s trailer was reflecting that sunlight—creating a dangerous glare situation. This critical detail demonstrates a troubling lack of situational awareness and proper risk assessment from a professional driver who should be held to a higher standard of care.

Similarly, in the Hillsboro case, it will be crucial to determine exactly what went wrong. Was the semi-truck driver using proper backing procedures? Were there flaggers or spotters present? Was visibility compromised by environmental factors? The surviving family deserves thorough answers and justice for any wrongdoing that led to the death of their loved one.

May they find the support they need during this difficult time.
