Driver Killed in Accident Involving Semi-truck on US-59 Feeder Road in Houston, Texas

HOUSTON, Texas — A person has died after a crash involving an 18-wheeler. The incident happened Friday morning.

The City of Sugar Land reported that the 18-wheeler was not fully pulled over when a vehicle collided with it.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further information is currently available.

Truck Drivers Cannot Block Lanes of Traffic

This tragic incident highlights how even the slightest safety lapse on the road can lead to devastating consequences. Truckers cannot block both lanes of traffic. They must drive safely and not create unsafe situations for other motorists.

We are currently handling a case in Kentucky in which the driver backed in, blocked both lanes of traffic, and caused a fatal collision. We also have another case in Texas in which a trucker blocked a lane of traffic while attempting to turn left on a divided highway, causing a fatal injury. These are accidents that should never have happened—truckers must take adequate precautions to protect the motoring public.

I would not be surprised if the trucking company here tried to escape responsibility by blaming the deceased driver. However, without further investigation of what caused the truck to block a lane of traffic, such blaming is unfair and unjust. People are killed over and over again in this same type of crash.

May the surviving family in this tragic incident find the support and guidance they need to find the answers they need to move forward.
