Ford Recalls Certain 2021-2022 EcoSport Vehicles Due to Front Half Shaft Issue

DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for 18,648 EcoSport vehicles from the 2021 and 2022 model years due to a potential safety defect involving the front half shafts. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affected vehicles equipped with the 6F15 automatic transmission may experience a disconnection of the front half shafts, leading to a sudden loss of drive power.

The issue came under investigation after a fatal accident involving a motorcycle that rear-ended an EcoSport. Following an internal review, Ford determined that stripped splines on the half shafts could cause them to disengage from the transmission. Between October and December 2024, the automaker analyzed warranty returns and found that some half shafts may not have been fully inserted into the transmission during assembly.

Authorized Ford dealers will inspect the left and right front half shafts—identified by part numbers GN15-3B437-NA and GN15-3B436-PA—and replace any that are not fully inserted. The replacement parts maintain the same design as the original components. Repairs will be performed at no cost to vehicle owners.

Ford will begin notifying affected customers by mail between April 7 and April 11, 2025. The recall applies to EcoSport vehicles manufactured between April 1, 2021, and July 20, 2022.

For more information, customers can contact Ford Customer Service or visit the NHTSA website to check their vehicle’s recall status.
