HabiLife Direct Recalls Safety Gates Due to Entrapment Hazard, Risk of Serious Injury or Death to Children

HabiLife Direct has issued a recall for its retractable safety mesh gates due to a violation of federal safety regulations for expansion gates and expandable enclosures. The recalled gates pose an entrapment hazard, as a child’s torso can pass through the opening between the gate and the floor, creating a risk of serious injury or death.

The recall involves the HabiLife Direct SG021 Retractable Safety Gate, which was marketed as a baby or pet gate. The gates, which feature an aluminum frame and were sold in white, gray, and black, measure approximately 34 inches high and have an adjustable width of up to 55 inches. “Retractable Safety Gate” and the model number SG021 are printed on a white label inside the frame near the handle.

The affected products were sold exclusively on Amazon.com. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled gates and contact HabiLife Direct for a full refund.

Consumers will be required to destroy the gates by cutting the mesh and disposing of the product, then submitting a photo of the destroyed gate to [email protected].

HabiLife Direct and Amazon are directly notifying all known purchasers about this recall.
