Kawasaki Recalls Nearly 4,000 Motorcycles Over Clutch Release Shaft Issue

Kawasaki Motors Corp. is recalling nearly 4,000 motorcycles in the U.S. due to a potential defect in the clutch release shaft, which could lead to a malfunction and increase the risk of a crash, according to a recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall applies to certain 2024 Kawasaki motorcycles, including:

  • Ninja 500 models:
    • ABS
    • KRT Edition
    • KRT Edition SE ABS
    • SE ABS
    • SE 40th Anniversary Edition ABS
  • Z500 models:
    • Z500 ABS
    • Z500 SE ABS

This recall impacts a total of 3,742 motorcycles.

The issue stems from an improperly welded clutch release shaft, which could cause the clutch lever to break, potentially disabling the motorcycle.

This recall impacts a total of 3,742 motorcycles.

Kawasaki dealers will replace the clutch release shaft at no cost. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on March 24. Motorcycle owners can contact Kawasaki customer service at 1-866-802-9381 and reference recall number MC25-04 for more details.

Owners can verify if their motorcycle is affected by using the NHTSA recall lookup tool:

  1. Visit NHTSA.gov/Recalls
  2. Enter the 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  3. Search for any active recalls
