Maureen Fulton Killed in FedEx Semi-truck Accident on Interstate 45 in Madison County, Texas

Madison, TX – A crash involving a FedEx 18-wheeler occurred on northbound Interstate 45 in Madison County, leaving one woman dead.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash happened near the Madison-Walker county line when a 2021 Peterbilt truck pulling a trailer approached slowed traffic at a speed that prevented the driver from stopping in time. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver swerved into another lane, striking multiple vehicles.

One of the vehicles involved was a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. An occupant of the Jeep, identified as 77-year-old Maureen Fulton of Huntsville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Surviving families deserve justice when corporate delivery trucks fail to drive safely

Large corporations have a duty to ensure their drivers are qualified and safe. When they fail in this responsibility, the consequences can be devastating. Between September 2017 and September 2019, FedEx vehicles were involved in 442 reported crashes, including 149 accidents resulting in injuries, 13 fatal crashes, and 280 incidents requiring vehicle towing. FedEx must do more to protect motorists.

Too often, corporations attempt to distance themselves from their drivers’ actions. In a recent case, we represented victims of a severe truck accident in Tulsa, Oklahoma, caused by a negligent FedEx delivery driver. The crash occurred when a FedEx-branded box truck completely disregarded oncoming traffic and pulled into a lane of traffic, colliding with our clients’ vehicle and causing severe injuries.

This tragedy was entirely preventable. FedEx failed to properly train, supervise, and monitor its driver, allowing an unqualified and unsafe individual to operate its vehicle. The driver’s failure to keep a proper lookout, and FedEx’s unreasonable demands on its driver, all led to the crash. Now, both FedEx and the driver are attempting to avoid accountability.

No one should suffer a life-changing crash due to reckless driving and corporate negligence in safety training.

The surviving family here deserves answers and justice. The profound grief, financial burdens, and irreversible loss they face cannot be ignored. We hope they find some measure of peace in the pursuit of accountability.
