Segway Recalls 220,000 Scooters Due to Folding Mechanism Defect


LOS ANGELES — Segway has issued a recall for approximately 220,000 electric scooters due to a mechanical defect in the folding mechanism that poses a fall risk. The recall follows reports of 68 incidents, including 20 injuries, such as broken bones, bruises, and lacerations.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall affects all Segway Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP KickScooters. These scooters were sold online at Amazon.com and Segway.com and in retail stores, including Best Buy, Costco, Sam’s Club, Target, and Walmart.

The Max G30LP KickScooter is gray with yellow accents, while the Max G30P is black with yellow accents. The “Ninebot” branding appears on the foot platform and handlebars.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled scooters immediately and contact Segway for a free maintenance kit. The kit includes tools and instructions for inspecting and adjusting the folding mechanism.
