Two Killed in Fiery 18-Vehicle Semi-truck Accident on Interstate 40 Near Williams, Arizona

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – A deadly multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 near Williams resulted in a fire that burned for more than 12 hours, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS). The crash occurred Thursday afternoon. Officials confirmed Friday that two people were killed in the collision.

DPS said the chain reaction began when a semi-truck jackknifed, blocking the right side of the freeway. As traffic slowed, another semi-truck jackknifed, striking multiple vehicles. Several cars were rear-ended and pushed into or beneath semi-trucks.

One of the semi-trucks caught fire, which quickly spread to other vehicles. Fueled by the crash wreckage, the fire burned for more than half a day, delaying emergency response efforts due to heavy traffic and severe winter weather conditions.

Authorities confirmed that the crash involved 13 passenger vehicles, five semi-trucks, and five unattached trailers.

The two individuals who died were passengers in separate vehicles. Their identities have not yet been released.

Those affected by this crash deserve answers and accountability from those at fault

What happened? A small mistake on the road can have enormous, devastating consequences. This is even more true when a large truck and passenger vehicle are involved. Unfortunately, these preventable accidents continue to happen.

To find out all the factors that led to this incident, we must go beyond the initial police report. Dashcam footage and the truck’s speed and braking data from the black box will provide important information about the events leading up to the crash.

Gathering all the information is needed to hold the responsible parties accountable. The injured will undoubtedly have mounting medical bills and lost wages, and they will experience pain and suffering that will change their lives forever. If another driver’s negligence is to blame, they deserve full and fair compensation for their losses.
