Polaris Recalls Allegedly Defective Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar Model Vehicles Due to Fire and Serious Injury Hazard

WASHINGTON — Polaris Industries has issued a recall for select Model Year 2025–2026 Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar and Ranger Crew XP 1000 NorthStar recreational off-road vehicles due to a fire risk that could cause serious injury.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the affected vehicles may have an alternator cable routed improperly. This defect can cause the cable to become damaged and contact the negative battery post, leading to an electrical short and potential fire.

The recall applies to certain VINs of the 2025–2026 Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar and Ranger Crew XP 1000 NorthStar vehicles. The recalled models were sold in multiple colors, including black, blue, bronze, brown, camouflage, gray, orange, red, and white. The vehicles feature “POLARIS” stamped on the front grille and were sold in both three- and six-seat configurations. The VIN can be found on the left rear frame under the cargo box on the driver’s side.

Polaris has received reports of electrical sparking, smoking, or melting, including one report of fire.
