Ann Wyatt Seriously Injured in an Accident with a Semi-truck on Interstate 70 near 18th Street in Kansas City

Kansas City, Kansas – Emergency responders were called to the westbound Interstate 70 on Thursday after a semi-truck triggered a three-vehicle collision that left a motorist with serious injuries. The incident happened near 18th Street.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2022 Kenworth tractor-trailer heading west in the third lane made an unsafe lane change and struck the rear driver’s side of a 2015 Ford Fusion. The Fusion, driven by Ann Wyatt of Kansas City, Kansas, spun across the highway into the path of a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500.

Wyatt was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.

Holding Truck Drivers Accountable After Failure-to-Yield Crashes

In a split second, a careless mistake can become catastrophic on the roadway. That is what happened here when a big rig met a small car. One negligent action behind the wheel has now left someone fighting for their life, facing an uncertain future, and a family grappling with grief, fear, and overwhelming concern for their loved one.

Ms. Wyatt and her family did not ask for this. They do not deserve what happened.

From our decades of experience handling similar cases, we know that it is during vulnerable times that trucking companies and their insurers will move quickly to protect themselves. They will shift or minimize blame as much as possible to avoid bearing the full cost of their negligent actions. No family should have to face this alone. And no family should have to face medical decisions, financial strain, and legal pressure— all at once.

Truck drivers and their companies should be held accountable when their negligent actions cause harm to others.

My hope above everything else is for Ms. Wyatt to make a full recovery and return to her life as she knew it before this terrible incident. May she and her family find the answers and justice they need.
