U. S. Recalls for Allegedly Defective Vehicles Hit Highest Level in Nearly Two Years

St. Peters, Mo. — Automakers issued 96 recall campaigns covering nearly 8.5 million vehicles in the United States in the third quarter of 2025. This marks the highest quarterly total since the first quarter of 2024, according to the latest recall report from BizzyCar.

Nearly 88 percent of those recalls involve defects that pose a risk of crash or injury. While over-the-air software updates continue to expand, most vehicles still require in-person service to complete repairs.

BizzyCar reports that almost 19.3 million vehicles have been recalled so far this year, mainly for safety-critical issues involving braking, fuel delivery, or back-over prevention technology.

Ford accounted for nearly 60 percent of all Q3 recalls, driven by concerns involving brakes, fuel systems, electrical components, and driver-assistance features.
