Man Seriously Injured in an Accident Involving a Semi-truck on Urbana Road in Clark County, Ohio


CLARK COUNTY, Ohio — A Springfield man was seriously injured Thursday in a crash involving a semi-truck, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers report that a 2020 International LT625 semi-trailer combination was traveling west on W. County Line Road when the driver stopped and began backing south onto Urbana Road. As the maneuver was underway, the semi’s trailer was struck by a westbound 2019 Dodge Journey on W. County Line Road.

The driver of the Dodge was transported to the medical center with serious injuries.

Backing Maneuver by Semi Raises Accountability Concerns After Serious Crash

Stopping and backing into active traffic is unsafe. Commercial drivers are trained not to back into an active roadway unless the lane is completely clear and controlled, because doing so creates an immediate and obvious danger to anyone approaching. So why would a semi attempt a maneuver like this on a public road?

We recently represented a case very similar to this one. A negligent driver in Texas, driving a truck, recklessly backed onto a busy highway, directly into the path of oncoming traffic. This blatant disregard for safety led to a catastrophic crash, leaving innocent motorists with severe injuries.

As expected, the trucking company attempted to deflect responsibility, despite clear evidence of their driver’s dangerous actions. Beyond the driver’s negligence, the company itself failed to implement proper safety training and procedures to prevent such reckless maneuvers. This level of negligence is unacceptable, and we fought to ensure that those responsible were held fully accountable for the harm they had caused our clients.

The injured individual here also deserves answers. Our thoughts are with him, and we hope he makes a full recovery.
