Honda Recalls More Than 400,000 Civic Vehicles Over Alleged Wheel Defect that can Lead to a Crash


WASHINGTON – Honda has announced a recall of more than 400,000 Civic vehicles due to a manufacturing defect that could cause wheels to detach while driving, creating a significant safety hazard.

The recall applies to certain Civic models from 2016 through 2021 equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels. Federal safety officials said the issue involves steel lug seat inserts that were not properly pressed into the aluminum wheel surface during production.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defect may cause wheel nuts to loosen over time, potentially leading to wheel separation and increasing the risk of a crash.
