One Person Injured After Improperly Parked Semi-truck Causes Accident on Interstate 40 in Roane County, Tennessee

ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. — An Alabama truck driver is facing multiple charges after parking his semi-truck along Interstate 40 and causing a crash that left one person injured.

Troopers said the truck driver had parked his semi improperly on the shoulder of I-40, and a westbound vehicle collided with the parked truck, causing the car to roll and stop in the middle of the roadway.

The driver of the car sustained injuries in the crash.

The truck driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, vehicular assault, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, using synthetic urine, and obstructing the roadway.

Only Safe Drivers Belong Behind the Wheel of a Commercial Truck

How was this driver ever allowed behind the wheel of an 80,000-pound vehicle capable of causing so much harm? What safety measures were in place, if any,Ā  to prevent someone allegedly under the influence from operating such a dangerous machine?

Trucking companies have a duty to carefully screen their drivers and make sure safety rules are followed every day. Letting someone unfit or impaired get behind the wheel of a semi puts everyone on the road at risk. Hiring the right drivers, giving them proper training, and keeping a close eye on their performance are basic steps that save lives. When companies fail to do that, they have to answer to those injured by these actions.

It is good to know that the driver was arrested for his actions. But accountability doesn’t end there. The injured person in this crash deserves answers: for the injuries they suffered, for the financial strain they now face, and for the simple fact that this never should have happened.
