Two People Injured in a Semi-truck Rear-End Accident on Highway 99 North of Los Molinos in Tehama County, California

TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. –A semi-truck and a minivan rear-end collision left two women injured on Highway 99.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the minivan was traveling north on Highway 99 when it slowed to make a left turn onto 3rd Avenue. A log-hauling semi-truck following the minivan was unable to stop and struck the minivan’s rear.

The minivan’s passenger was airlifted to a nearby hospital with major injuries. The driver sustained moderate injuries.

The injured individuals deserve answers and justice

One of the golden rules in the trucking world is for truckers to maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of them. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) states that, at speeds over 40 mph, truckers should leave at least 5 seconds between themselves and the vehicle ahead. So what went wrong here? Why wasn’t the trucker able to maintain a safe distance, allowing for faster reaction times in case of a sudden stop? Something went terribly wrong here.

A crash like this raises serious questions about training, supervision, and whether this driver had the preparation and oversight needed to operate a commercial truck safely. Commercial trucks don’t simply “fail to stop.” Something causes that failure—fatigue, distraction, or poor maintenance. These answers matter for the women injured and their families.

Two women were hurt—one with injuries serious enough to require an airlift. Their lives now revolve around hospitals, recovery, and uncertainty, all because a commercial truck didn’t give them the distance required under basic safety rules.

Trucking companies will do all they can to settle or minimize blame quickly. But they should not get away with doing this. The injured will no doubt face mounting medical expenses, loss of wages, and unexpected costs. They deserve justice that reflects the scope of what they have endured and what they will continue to face.

May these women recover fully, and may they find the answers and justice they deserve.
