Jeep Recalls More Than 112,000 Allegedly Defective Wrangler and Grand Cherokee Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles Due to Risk of Fire or Engine Failure

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Stellantis is recalling more than 112,000 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid SUVs due to an engine contamination issue that can lead to stalling, internal damage, or a potential vehicle fire.

The recall involves 112,859 vehicles equipped with 2.0L engines that may contain residual sand from the metal-casting process. The agency reports that leftover sand inside the engine can cause excessive wear, component damage, and possible engine failure. Stellantis noted that, in some cases, drivers may experience an unexpected loss of propulsion or a fire risk.

According to NHTSA’s review of engine and manufacturing records, the affected engines were produced in Mexico from June 7, 2023, through March 4, 2025.

The recall impacts certain model-year vehicles in the following lines:
• Wrangler 4xe (2024–2025)
• Grand Cherokee 4xe (2023–2025)

The NHTSA recall number is 25V766, and the manufacturer’s recall reference is 78C.
