BMW Recalls Nearly 200,000 Allegedly Defective Vehicles Due to Fire and Injury Risk


WASHINGTON — BMW has issued a recall for nearly 200,000 vehicles across the United States due to a fire risk that may occur even when the cars are parked and turned off.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem stems from the engine starter relay, which can corrode, overheat, and potentially cause a short circuit, creating a fire hazard.

The recall affects several models, including the 2019–2022 Z4, 2019–2021 330i, 2020–2022 X3, 2020–2022 X4, 2020–2022 530i, 2021–2022 430i (both standard and convertible), 2022 230i, and the Toyota Supra, which BMW manufactures.
