CPSC Warns Allegedly Defective Adult Bed Rails Continue to be Sold After Recall and Fatal Entrapment Incident

Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging the public to stop using certain OasisSpace adult portable bed rails distributed by Gold Kernal LLC after determining they present a significant risk of entrapment that could lead to serious injury or death. The advisory follows the death of an 81-year-old Ohio woman who became trapped between one of the bed rails and her mattress in her home last year.

The agency stated that Gold Kernal, operating under the OasisSpace name, has continued to sell the products on major online platforms even after being notified of safety violations. CPSC issued a Notice of Violation involving four bed rail models that do not comply with federal safety standards for adult bed rails.

The warning covers approximately 86,100 units sold online through OasisSpace, Amazon, and Walmart from July 2019 through February of this year, priced between $30 and $108. Some units have also been located through third-party sellers on other e-commerce sites.

The affected products include:
• Model F042: White metal, height adjustable from roughly 28.5 to 42 inches, 17 inches wide, with black foam grip and blue suction cup feet
• Model F127: Silver metal, height adjustable from roughly 12 to 18 inches, 13 inches wide, with black foam grip
• Model G132: Black metal, height adjustable from roughly 18 to 22 inches, 13 inches wide, with black foam grip and detachable gray pouch
• Model G286: Silver metal, about 16 inches high and 38 inches wide, designed to fold down when not in use

CPSC reported that the company has not agreed to a recall or remedy for consumers.
