Hyundai Recalls More Than 135,000 Allegedly Defective Santa Fe SUVs Due to Fire and Injury Risk


FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – Hyundai Motor America has announced a recall of 135,386 Santa Fe SUVs from the 2024 and 2025 model years due to a potential fire risk following a crash.

The recall applies to non-hybrid Santa Fe models equipped with the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Hyundai reports that a starter motor cover may not have been correctly installed during production, leaving the “B+” terminal exposed. In the event of a collision, damage to the engine compartment could expose the terminal and cause it to contact the cooling fan assembly, creating an electrical short and increasing the risk of fire.

The company became aware of the issue after a New Car Assessment Program test resulted in a post-crash fire.
