Tire Blowout on Semi-truck Triggers Three-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 8 in Arizona Foothills

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. — A three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck, pickup, and SUV occurred Tuesday on Interstate 8 near South Fortuna Road in the Foothills area.

A state trooper at the scene said the crash began when a tire on the semi-truck blew out, causing the driver to lose control.

Several people sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and at least two were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Thoughts on commercial truck tire blowouts

When tire blowouts repeatedly occur on commercial trucks, it’s clear that it’s not a matter of bad luck, chance, or neglecting tire maintenance, as many may assume. Instead, there’s an underlying issue at play, for which the truck driver is at no fault: defects.

Unfortunately, truck accidents caused by defective tires are becoming increasingly common nationwide. Recently, we handled a case involving an over-the-road truck driver traveling through Arizona. As he approached an overpass, his tire failed unexpectedly, causing him to lose control and plunge onto the road below. The resulting crash led to the tractor-trailer exploding, tragically killing an innocent man. We assisted the surviving family in uncovering the actual cause of the tire failure and held the tire manufacturer accountable for the loss of life caused by their defective product.

We have handled commercial steel axle tire failures in many states, including South Carolina, Florida, California, Utah, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada. In most cases, we see a repeated pattern of tire manufacturers trying to evade responsibility for producing and selling defective tires. Instead, these manufacturers will blame the truck driver’s actions after the blowout. This is unfair and unjust, as blowouts can happen suddenly and without warning, causing even the most experienced driver to lose control of their vehicle.

Trained professionals should examine the tire involved in this incident to identify the reason for its failure. If defects are found to be the cause, the injured motorists deserve justice and explanations for the harm they have endured. Experienced tire truck accident attorneys can help those impacted find the answers they need.
