Silvia Lemon and Orlando Tello Killed in a Head-on Semi-truck Accident on US Highway 180 in Scurry County, Texas

SCURRY COUNTY, Texas — A man and woman from Lamesa were killed Monday night in a collision involving three vehicles west of Snyder. The incident happened on U.S. Highway 180 near County Road 264.

According to reports, a pickup truck was traveling west behind a semi-truck when a second semi-truck, traveling east, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with both vehicles.

The driver and passenger of the pickup, identified as 32-year-old Orlando Tello and 59-year-old Silvia Lemon, died at the scene.

Surviving Family Members of this Semi-truck Crash Deserve Answers and Justice

The pickup truck driver was simply going about their drive, following the rules of the road, when in a moment their life, and their passenger’s, was tragically taken. This should never be the norm on our roads, and the surviving family deserves answers on why and how something like this happened to their loved ones.

It only takes one moment of distraction, excessive speed, or fatigue for an accident of this magnitude to happen. There are instances where mechanical failures, such as brake or steering malfunctions or sudden tire blowouts, can also cause a driver to lose control. Could any of these factors have contributed to this crash?

At our firm, we frequently handle cases involving head-on collisions. In a recent case in New Mexico, a semi-truck crossed a dirt median and collided head-on with a passenger bus, resulting in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries. In an instant, lives were forever changed. Multiple families lost loved ones in an instant and were left heartbroken and unsure of how to move forward. Some lost parents, others children, and most had never navigated the legal system before and didn’t know what to do next.

In another case, we represented a young man from Nebraska who was traveling through Kansas after a multi-week work trip. While driving on a two-lane road, a semi-truck attempting to pass crossed the double yellow line and crashed into his vehicle head-on, killing him. That moment forever altered his parents’ lives.

When a devastating accident takes a life and turns a family’s world upside down, understanding what went wrong and holding those responsible accountable is important for surviving family members.

Mr. Tello and Ms. Lemon’s family members deserve answers. Finding those answers can help bring a sense of justice and closure in an incredibly difficult time.
