Best Buy Recalls Allegedly Defective Insignia Pressure Cookers Due to Burn-Injury Risk


MINNEAPOLIS – Best Buy has announced a recall of Insignia multi-function pressure cookers and replacement inner pots after discovering a defect that poses a burn hazard.

According to the recall, the inner pots contain incorrect volume markings, which can lead consumers to overfill the appliance. Overfilled units may eject hot food or liquid when the pressure is released or when the lid is opened while still pressurized.

The recall applies to six- and eight-quart Insignia pressure cookers with model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9, and NS-MC80SS9, as well as replacement inner pots with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9. The brand name Insignia is printed on the front of the cooker and on a permanent label, where the model number is also displayed. The affected inner pots are black with a non-stick coating and embossed measurement markings.

There have been at least 31 incident reports linked to the defect, including 17 burn injuries. Several of the reported injuries involved second-degree or more serious burns.
