Retrospec Recalls Defective Children’s Bike Helmets Due to Risk of Head Injury


WASHINGTON — Retrospec is recalling certain children’s bicycle helmets after federal safety regulators determined they do not meet mandatory standards and may not provide adequate head protection in a crash.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the affected Scout model helmets fail to comply with requirements for coverage, stability, and labeling under the federal bicycle helmet safety rule. The defect creates a risk of head injury in the event of an accident.

The recall applies to:

  • Scout model helmets in sizes XS and S
  • Available in the following colors and designs:
    • Blippi
    • Blush
    • Brash Blue
    • Chameleon
    • Cool Mint
    • Matte Forest Green
    • Matte Black
    • Matte Navy
    • Matte White
    • Matte Burnt Orange
    • Matte Green
    • Matte Royal Blue
    • Matte Whisper Pink
  • Helmets displaying the Retrospec name or “R” logo on the right side
  • Packaged with a green hang tag identifying the brand, model, and size

The helmets were sold nationwide at Scheels, Play It Again Sports, independent bike shops, and online through Retrospec.com and Amazon.com.
