Hamilton Medical Recalls Defective Coaxial Breathing Circuit Sets Due to Risk of Death


WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hamilton Medical, Inc. is recalling specific lots of coaxial breathing circuit sets after discovering potential cracks in the inner blue tube caused during production. The inner tube supplies fresh gas to the patient, while the outer tube removes exhaled gases. A defect compromising the inner tube can lead to a mix of inhaled and exhaled gases.

This failure may result in the partial or complete rebreathing of carbon dioxide, which can cause serious health risks, including hypercapnia, respiratory acidosis, organ dysfunction, or death if left unrecognized.

The FDA has classified this action as its most serious type of recall, noting the devices may cause severe injury or death if used. Affected products are being removed from use and sale.
