Weber Recalls More Than 3.2 Million Allegedly Defective Grill Brushes Over Risk of Metal Bristle Ingestion and Injury


The manufacturer Weber has announced a recall of more than 3.2 million metal-wire bristle grill brushes after reports that small bristles can detach during use and pose a serious ingestion hazard.

According to the recall notice, loose metal bristles from the brushes can break free and remain on grill surfaces or become stuck to food. If swallowed, the bristles can cause internal injuries and may require medical treatment or surgical removal.

The recall covers grill brushes with plastic or wooden handles measuring approximately 12 to 21 inches long. Affected products include the following model numbers: 6277, 6278, 6463, 6464, 6493, and 6494.

Weber has received at least 38 reports and consumer reviews indicating that metal bristles detached from the brushes during use. In four of those cases, individuals reported swallowing the bristles and sought medical care to remove them from their throats or digestive tracts.
