Juan Delgado Killed in a Workplace Accident Near the Intersection of Lomax Road and Cortezville Street in Olmito, Texas

Olmito, Texas — A 42-year-old water supply employee died following a workplace incident while performing underground work, according to the Brownsville Police Department. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Lomax Road and Cortezville Street.

Authorities identified the worker as Juan Antonio Delgado.

Delgado had been lowered into the well inside a cage to carry out work duties when he dropped approximately 10 feet into a sewer drainage well. Some reports raise concerns about whether safety equipment was properly used at the time of the incident.

Fatal Worksite Death Raises Questions About Safety Equipment and Training

Somewhere along the way, something went terribly wrong here, and Mr. Delgado’s family deserves answers. How did something like this even happen?

According to some reports, there are concerns about whether the safety equipment was used properly.  This makes it important to look beyond the initial report and examine the conditions at the job site, such as whether the proper safety equipment was provided, used correctly, and inspected before work even began. We also need to examine whether Mr. Delgado was properly trained and if safety procedures were enforced at all times.

Whenever someone dies while working, it is important to examine everything to determine all the factors that led to the incident. Those responsible for worksites prioritize workplace safety, including implementing comprehensive safety training programs and protocols and ensuring a safe environment for all workers. Companies must be held accountable for their negligence when they fail to uphold these standards.

A family lost their loved one. When this happens, they deserve answers. I hope the Delgado family finds the answers they need.
